Sci-fi inspired Cinema Room features Cutting Edge Tech

The Toronto Cinema Room draws inspiration from some of the sci-fi genre’s most visually iconic films, from the neon-drenched streets of Blade Runner to the sleek digital worlds of Tron.

Dark grey walls set a moody backdrop as concentric LED light strips pulse outward from the screen, stretching along the room and converging at the back wall. The effect is hypnotic—a luminous tunnel that transports viewers straight into the heart of a scene worthy of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

This isn’t just a cinema room, it’s a journey through the cosmos of science fiction design.

The Cinema Design Brief
The Toronto Cinema was conceived with a simple yet exciting brief: technology first. 
It was the dream brief for any cinema designer, to create a space where innovation takes centre stage and every element of design either showcases or gracefully steps aside for the technology to shine.

This obvious starting point for this sci-fi, technology-based brief was Light Walls LED lighting, a defining feature that, together with Poet’s intelligent control system, transforms the room into a living canvas. Dynamic light shows pulse and shift in perfect harmony with the action on screen, wrapping viewers in a truly immersive, sensory experience.

Fabric Walls and Interior Design
With technology leading the brief and a sci-fi theme at its core, it was clear from the outset that LED lighting would define the Toronto Cinema Room. These illuminated strips dominate the visual design, repeating through the space to create an ever-changing, dynamic light show that immerses viewers in the cinematic experience.

To balance this bold, futuristic display, the rest of the room was intentionally designed to be understated. Fabric Walls became essential to achieving this subtle backdrop. The stretched fabric not only conceals the MAG Theatron sound system and C-ATS acoustic treatment, but also adds a refined, tactile finish using dark grey Blazer Lite fabric from Camira.

Even the Barco Balder projector disappears seamlessly into the design, hidden behind the Fabric Walls and paired with a Display Technologies Port Hole to minimise sound and heat leakage while maintaining a sleek, uninterrupted aesthetic. To further optimise space, the projector is mounted on a Display Technologies Vertical Mirror Mount, freeing up room for lounge-style seating and an extra row of LED strips, amplifying the room’s dramatic lighting concept.
